Hi Frank, Let me just say, it's a challenge - a really fun challenge; and my intent was not to be a naysayer at all... millimag is achievable by most dedicated amateurs, and it sounds like you have great enthusiasms for 'the sport' - my opinion on the red, more than Aaron, in any event. Tell ya what, if you do have the funds, UBVRI filters in 1.25" (or 2") are not too impossible to get... Not as cheap as others, but almost always around the century mark, maybe less per, for a set...While SBIG is above that: http://www.sbig.com/sbwhtmls/filters.htm, if you google for UBVRI you might find a good couple filters for a reasonable price. I recommend you go on the AAVSO site - they have a page or two about filters (also found via google if not by just going there...)
