Correct - that I did also some time ago with another bright target, and I
could indeed almost double my exposure time.

Tonny,

one more thing: if you use your camera unbinned, you can generally double
your exposure: the charge capacity of the binned pixel is about twice that
of the unbinned pixel, while it' area is four times larger.
