Hello Jason;

Yes your results came out ok, but they would be very dependent on the color 
of the variable star and the color of the comparison.  If you repeat your 
experiment with stars of many different colors, the results will sometimes be 
better, and many times worse than what your experienced.

You do not need to get the whole BVRI setup to start.  Just get the V filter, 
and you will be able to compare your data to the other observers in the aavso 
programs and projects.  Unfiltered measurements are good for EB work.
